CAREGIVING - Personal Health Support Worker

COURSE DESCRIPTION

A personal health support worker (PHSW) is required to provide those needing assistance with daily personal care as they deal with the effects of aging, injury or illness. A PHSW works under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse assisting patients with personal hygiene, meal preparation, household management and in dealing with various ongoing conditions. PHSW's work very closely with patients often developing personal relationships, therefore the knowledge and abilities must always go beyond dexterity skills and emphasize on the value of a PHSW’s role and reflect true sensitivity and respect for each client.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

This Philippine-based Personal Support Worker program prepares students to deliver appropriate short- or long-term care assistance and support services in a long-term care facility, in an acute care facility, in the community or in home care. The program also aims to educate and train learners with the necessary tools and skills to deliver appropriate, timely, and respectful client-focused care to individuals with cognitive impairment or mental health issues, newborns and children of all ages, the elderly, persons with disabilities, those recovering from illness, surgery or injuries and their families.
